How to Stay Motivated While Losing Weight

by admin on May 20, 2013

Many of us get motivated when we see a weight loss testimonial or infomercial, or a friend is getting married, or we have a high school reunion. Many of us start out with great intentions, but the key is to learn how to stay motivated while losing weight.

It’s easy to start a diet. We cherish the visions of the thinner version of ourselves; we can’t wait until we fit into our skinny jeans…and then temptation lands right in our path to success.

It’s the donuts at work or the special treats at the potluck dinner, or going out to celebrate a birthday. You name it, seems like there are more exceptions to a diet that there are days without exceptions. It gets hard, and it is tricky. For some of us, we slip up and the next thing you know we’re spiraling out of control and gaining weight back faster than you can say cookie crumbs.

To learn how to stay motivated while losing weight, I ask one question. What deflates your motivation?

If you can answer that question, then you’ll know what should keep you motivated. Make a list. Start it right now. Everything that lets the air out of your motivation. In a second column, write down how you can avoid the problem. For instance, if stepping on the scale and seeing that you haven’t lost an ounce…or worse that you’ve gained a half a pound…if that discourages you, then to stay motivated stay off the scale.

This proactive approach lets you attack your weight and stay positive.
